Soot Cake Formation in DPF System and related Problems

  • Definition of Soot Cake
    • A mixture of soot, leaked engine oil, ash and moisture generated from Diesel engines exhaust..
  • Formation & Deposition of Soot Cake
    • Accumulates and adheres to the inner walls of exhaust piping, forming deposits ranging from millimeters to several centimeters in thickness.
  • Problems with Soot Cake in DPF applications
    • The deposits agglomerate into hard, solid masses that cannot be easily removed through the DPF cell plug openings.
    • These deposits gradually block the DPF cells from the outer edge toward the center of the filter, eventually preventing exhaust flow through the filter.

    • Once exhaust flow is blocked, the clogged areas can never be effectively regenerated.

    • Even after regeneration, only a portion of the filter is restored, while the filter continues to operate under high backpressure conditions.

    • When deposits have accumulated excessively, regeneration can generate localized high temperatures that may damage or crack the DPF filter.

    • To ensure proper DPF performance, accumulated deposits must be removed periodically before the cells become completely blocked.

FTFF (Full Time Full Flow) Burner for

Soot Cake Problems

  • Best way to REMOVE  Soot Cake
    • Under engine operating conditions that provide sufficient exhaust flow rate and pressure to penetrate partially clogged DPF cells (optimal when the engine is running), the overall exhaust gas temperature must be increased to approximately 450-550°C, which is the combustion temperature range of the soot cake.
  • Use of FTFF Burner : Perfect Solution of  Soot Cake Problem
    • CATech's burner regeneration technology is the only method capable of delivering reliable DPF regeneration under all engine operating conditions.
    • By utilizing a full-time, full-flow burner, the system generates a continuous flame and high-temperature exhaust gas, providing uniform heating throughout the DPF and ensuring complete soot oxidation.
    • This makes our DPF system as  Standard  DPF Systems for Motor-Car in Korea.
  • What is FTFF burner?
    •  Innovative and creative new burning technology applied to DPF burner
    • Capable of stable flame generation even in exhaust gas environments with low O₂ concentrations.
    • Ignition and flame formation can be initiated whenever required, regardless of engine operating conditions (RPM & Load).
    • An advanced burner specifically designed for PM (Particulate Matter) combustion and oxidation in DPF systems.
    • FTFF burner system can be used for the heating of exhaust gas temperature in SCR application.
